Spotify Wrapped came out a few days ago, much later in the year than previous reenditions, and unsurprisingly it was very anti-climactic. I believe they've laid off a lot of their staff, so none of the creativity that makes the app stealing your data worth it was there. That paired with the lack of interesting metrics and use of generative AI made it incredibly disappointing. Even so, I still want to share my end of year statistics to memorialise the place I'm in right now.

Now I'm writing a full breakdown below, but if you want to see me on other platforms....

Click here to watch me live react to my Wrapped!

Anyway, I'm aware it's not entirely accurate because of several factors (adblock and the fact that I use CDs mostly lol) but here is my wrapped!I will warn you now, it's remained fairly consistent for the past few years. I have quite a diverse taste but the topppp artists always end up the same hahahaha.

Minutes Listened: 15,732 (Top 23% of Listeners)

This is around 11 days of music? I suspect the true number is slightly higher, but Spotify doesn't pick up some songs when I use adblock on the web app. But to be fair, because I refuse to buy premium and the ads are unyielding, I don't use Spotify on a daily basis. Short journies to and from school or if I'm studying on my laptop. Otherwise I either opt for my CDs or silence. I don't like to melt my brain with music 24/7.

Biggest Listening Day: 6th of March (560 minutes)

I have no idea what I was doing that day to be listening to NINE HOURS??? of music straight? I tried to figure it out, but all I could find was this Instagram story with A Match into Water by Pierce the Veil playing on it.

Embarassing, but not useful. What would be useful is if Spotify told me wtf I was listening to that day. I'll just have to figure that out myself unfortunately and will let you know when I have :D

Update 08-12-2024: I finally have my download data! Here's what I listened to on my most musically strenuous day of the year! Make of it what you will.

Songs Played: 2,503

This means nothing to me because I have no reference point. I wonder what their baseline for "songs played" is too, does it count those I skip before 30 seconds or not?

Top Songs

1. Softcore (The Neighbourhood)

Are we surprised? Take a look at any page on my blog lmao. Butttt I only listened to it 17 times this year apparently so that makes me question the way these statistics represent me. I was in the top 0.5% of listeners for this song which is a lot lower than last year I'm pretty sure.

2. 2x4 (Aleka's Attic)

Okay yeah first few months of the year I was listening to this a lot. It's such a shame we don't have more of River's music :( Also I'm sure I was probably the top listener for this band but they didn't say anything.

3. Heart Attack (EXO)

It's a good song, what can I say? Am I the only one who doesn't care about my Wrapped looking a certain way? I'm obviously going to listen to fun short songs more often than like fucking... Bela Lugosi's Dead even though they're both things I enjoy. So what if it makes me look boring? I'm not a fucking spreadsheet.

4. Turn Around and Look at Me (VIXX)

Okay this one makes no sense to me. Yes I listened to it a couple of times but there is NO WAY it's so high up.

5. L no Theme (Hideki Taniuchi)

Perhaps the only thing on here I'm actually "embarassed" of. It's good study music okay???

2024 Listening Evolution

This is just incomprehensible GenAI slop, but I'll record it here anyway.Like if you're going to do this, at least commit to the whole year.

February: Pumpkin Spice Permanent Wave Britpop Phase

I was really into artists like Manic Street Preachers, Blur and The Stone Roses

Literally just stringing random buzzwords together bruhhhh. The Manics and "Pumpkin Spice" should not be in the same sentence... ever.

March: Hallyu Catwalk K-Pop Season

I was all about artists like EXO, NCT 127 and Red Velvet

I think I'd rather get called a koreaboo....

August: Rainy Day Softcore Indie Moment

I was big on artists like The Neighbourhood, Arctic Monkeys and TV Girl

See this is how I know they're just regurgitating half-digested data from every preteen's TikTok playlist because I don't even listen to TV Girl that much, but they're often grouped together with the others.

Artists Listened to: 1,105

Again, meaningless because I have no reference point.

Top Artists

1. The Neighbourhood

We been knew. Apparently my longest listening streak was only 3 days though. Altogether I was in the top 2% of their fans (last year I think it was 0.5% or 0.1%) and I listened to them for 703 minutes which is only 11 hours. I think because my taste is so diverse, the stats for my top artists and tracks just inevitably average out lower lmao.

2. EXO

Not much to say, they're one of my favourite K-Pop groups.

3. NCT 127

Interesting... Don't think I listen to them that much but it's probably just because I like listening to albums in full.

4. My Chemical Romance

Okay this one surprised me. I had no idea I listened to them enough to be in my top 100 let alone top 5? If anything I'd expect this to go to a Visual Kei group.

5. Aleka's Attic

This sort of surprised me, but only because I forgot how much I listened to them towards the beginning of the year.

Return to room.
