~Cyber Pets~

Cyber pets, of all things, are what sparked my long-enduring interest in making websites, and the indie web. I can more or less track a narrative timeline of this, so I figure I'll share it here. The condensed version though, I know you're probably eager to see my critters. It started with a knock-off Tamagotchi. I'd seen it at a store and begged my parents to buy it for me, it was only £5, but they didn't. Okay, listen -- in my defence, I was only 7 or 8. I was a lonely child, and all I wanted was a companion. Maybe to placate me, my parents let me play on the desktop computer for a while, and my one-track mind immediately started searching for the cyber pet. I didn't find it, but I did end up having a whole world opened to me. adoptme.com (now sadly turned into AI slop), Chicken Smoothie, Howrse, bunnyhero labs, and most importantly, the world of personal homepages. Most were long dead by the time I found them, but I was enthralled. They'd show off their "pets" on wonderfully garish sites, disabling the right-click function so your only method of procuring them was by visiting the "adoption agency." It was so charming. I spent hours collecting these pixels -- some of the beauties on this page are from all the way back then! -- and displaying them on my ugly website. Soon, I branched out, creating pages about music and browser games and blog posts too. I loved having a space of my own on the internet, handcrafted by and for myself. Not much has changed since then, 15 years later, though I've switched from my drag-and-drop website builder to pure HTML now. That kid would be so proud of this cringe ass site, I wish I could show her... Anyway, that is quite enough from me, now onto the pets. Check back often, I have a lot of pets and it'll take me a while to get this page up to date!

This one isn't technically one of my favourites, but I'd found it embedded on one of my old blogs, clicked on it and realised another account had ownership of it somehow. Considering it was probably one of the first pets on the site I'd adopted, I asked if she'd mind trading for it and I got him back :3
